ADP Reports Private Sector Employment and Compensation Rise in Max
According to the ADP National Employment Report released on Wednesday, private sector employment increased by 37,000 jobs in May, down from 62,000 jobs reported in April. Year-over-year, annual compensation was up 4.5%.
In May, construction, information, financial activities, leisure/hospitality all reported job gains, while hiring in other sectors reported declines.
The jobs report and pay insights use ADP’s fine-grained anonymized and aggregated payroll data to provide a representative picture of the private-sector labor market. The report details the current month’s total private employment change, and weekly job data from the previous month.
Commenting on the report, ADP Chief Economist Nela Richardson said:
“After a strong start to the year, hiring is losing momentum. Pay growth, however, was little changed in May, holding at robust levels for both job-stayers and job-changers.”
