Canada Officially Files Notice of Challenge to US Softwood Lumber Duties
Canada’s International Trade Minister Mary Ng, announced on Monday (8-29-22), that the Canadian government has filed a formal notice of challenge under the U.S. – Mexico – Canada trade agreement’s dispute resolution system in regard to U.S. duties on Canadian softwood lumber.
Minister Ng signaled that although the U.S. has cut its anti-dumping and countervailing duty rate in half earlier this month to 8.59 per cent from 17.61 per cent, that Canada would still fight the measures.
In a media statement, Minister Ng did say that Canada is willing to work toward a negotiated solution in the long-running dispute.
