US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for September 14

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that on Sunday, September 13, 71 new wildfires were reported nationwide, including five new large incidents. On Monday, firefighters were working to contain 57 large fires, with 13,100 personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.

The National Fire Preparedness Level was lowered to 3 out of 5 on September 9.

Daily Statistics

As of Monday, there were 57 large wildfires, with five contained. NIFC reported that 2,503,512 acres are impacted from active fires.

Washington led with 12 active fires; Montana had nine; Oregon had eight; Idaho had seven; California and Colorado had four each; New Mexico and Texas had three each; Oklahoma had two; and Alabama, Arkansas, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming had one each.

The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:

• Year-to-date through September 14, 54,407 wildfires have been reported, burning 8,435,367 acres.
• During the same period last year, 49,462 wildfires were reported, burning 4,377,661 acres.
• The 10-year average (2016–25) for the same period is 44,133 wildfires and 5,678,646 acres burned.
