Us National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for July 21

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Monday, July 21, three new large incidents had been recorded since the previous day, bringing the nationwide total to 83 active large fires.

The National Fire Preparedness Level has been raised to a 4 out of 5. More than 18,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents, including 21 complex incident management teams. Evacuations are in effect in multiple geographic areas, particularly the Northwest.

Daily Statistics

As of Monday, there are currently 74 large wildfires or emergency response ongoing nationwide, with only three partially contained. A total of 997,618 acres are actively burning.

There are currently 35 wildfires burning in Alaska; 6 each in California, Colorado, and Oregon; 5 in Washington; 4 in Arizona; 3 each in Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah; 2 in Idaho; and 1 in Georgia.

The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:

  • Year-to-date through July 21, 41,069 wildfires have been reported, and they have burned 2,892,545 acres.
  • During the same period last year, 26,240 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 3,447,182 acres.
  • The 10-year average (2015–24) for the same time period is 31,417 wildfires and 3,286,248 acres burned.
