More than 250 wildfires continue to burn in British Columbia
The B.C. Wildfire Service is reporting that there are 257 wildfires currently burning throughout the province. That is one less than was being reported at the Saturday update and down from about 300 being reported earlier in the week. Nonetheless, there are still 58 evacuations orders in place that are impacting about 4,400 properties. Another approximately 17,500 properties remain under an evacuation alert, meaning residents have been to be ready to leave on short notice.
On Saturday, one hundred wildfire fighters from Mexico arrived to help fight the blazes and Mike Farnworth, B.C’s Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General thanked them for their support. Farnworth went onto say, that despite the decline in the number of active wildfires, there is challenging weather in the forecast for the foreseeable future.
