Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center Report as of May 14th

The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC), a non-for-profit corporation owned and operated by the federal, provincial, and territorial wildland fire management agencies to coordinate resource sharing, mutual aid, and information sharing, reported on Sunday (5-14-23) that Canada is currently at a wildfire preparedness level of 5 out of 5 as wildfires in Western Canada, as well as other Eastern provinces continue to burn.

According to the CIFFC, as of Sunday there were 5 new wildfires reported. Currently, there are now 203 active wildfires with 68 of those wildfires remaining out of control, 36 being reported as held, and 99 being reported as controlled.

Year-to-date, the CIFFC says a total of 1,172 wildfires have consumed 723 square kilometers or 178,657 acres.
