Wren Hill Lumber Receives $2 Million Federal Grant for Oregon Sawmill Upgrade

Wren Hill Lumber, a Philomath-area Oregon sawmill operator, has received a $2 million federal grant to upgrade its facility and expand its ability to process small-diameter logs, Philomath News reported (8-20-26).

US Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden announced the award this week. The funding will help Wren Hill Lumber increase capacity and efficiency while expanding small-diameter log processing.

The grant is part of $15.1 million in funding for 20 wood innovation projects across Oregon through the US Forest Service’s Wood Innovations Program. The program supports active management of national forests and grasslands, expands wood-products manufacturing capacity, and supports rural economies and jobs.

Wren Hill Lumber’s grant falls under the Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance category. Other Oregon recipients in that category include sawmill projects in Prairie City, John Day, and Gilchrist, as well as a biomass energy project in Hines.
