Swiss Krono to End Laminate Flooring Production in Barnwell, SC

Swiss Krono plans to cease laminate flooring production at its facility in Barnwell, South Carolina, resulting in layoffs affecting approximately 130 employees, The People Sentinel reported (5-13-26).

According to a May 12 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter filed with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, layoffs are expected to begin on July 11, with all separations completed by August 10.

“All affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent,” the company said in the WARN notice.

Cecilia Allen, director of human resources for the Barnwell facility, said the decision was made as part of an effort to strengthen the company’s long-term competitiveness and optimize its manufacturing footprint.

“As part of an ongoing effort to strengthen our long-term competitiveness and optimize our manufacturing footprint, we have made the decision to discontinue laminate flooring production at our facility in Barnwell,” Allen said. “The Barnwell facility will remain in operation, with a continued focus on MDF/HDF/THDF production, which remains a core part of our business.”

Allen said Swiss Krono will continue serving customers through its global production network and remains committed to the Barnwell community through its “viable MDF operations.”
