Domtar to Cut Lumber Production by 150 Million Board Feet in Q1
On Tuesday, Domtar said it will reduce lumber production by 150 million board feet in Q1 across its sawmill facilities in Quebec, Ontario, and the US, citing challenging market conditions, US tariffs, and ongoing economic uncertainty.
Northern Ontario Business reported separately that the announcement includes the indefinite shutdown of Domtar’s Resolute sawmill in Ignace, Ontario, beginning March 12.
Domtar said it will continue to monitor market conditions and adjust its production plans as needed.
Luc Thériault, Domtar CEO of Wood Products and President – Canada, said:
“The demand for lumber in North America remains weak, requiring us to adjust our production levels in line with market conditions. While this decision is necessary, we are fully aware of the impact it will have on our employees, contractors, suppliers, and the communities in which we operate.”
