Skeena Sawmill Terrace, BC, Facility Announces 3-Week Log Intake Embargo

Citing the high cost of logs and other factors impacting its business, Skeena Sawmills announced in a press release that it had stopped receiving logs at its Terrace, BC, sawmill facility starting on Friday, January 6, 2023. The log intake embargo is scheduled to last three weeks. The reopening of the log scales will be evaluated at the end of the month and will be dependent on improved economic conditions according to the press release.

However, the mill will continue to produce lumber, drawing down what inventory there is in the log yard until the end of the month. Chipping operations will also continue.

While the sawmill operations will continue to operate, its sister facility, the Skeena bio-energy pellet plant next door, has been temporarily closed.
