Proposed Bonfield, Ontario, Sawmill Loses License Bid

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has announced that it will not be issuing an operating license to International Wood Industries for its proposed sawmill in Bonfield, according to a report by Northern Ontario Business (3-31-23). The original $145-million proposal dates back to 2017.

The ministry posted its decision to the Environmental Registry, noting that the proponent had withdrawn the application. The ministry wrote in the update that “We are not proceeding with issuing a forest resource processing facility license to Bonfield Forest Products Incorporated to authorize the construction of the proposed sawmill facility.”
