US Wood Pellet Exports Increase in August

According to data released by United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service and analysis by Biomass Magazine (10-5-23), the US exported 1.01 million metric tons of wood pellets in August, up from 615,698.8 metric tons in July and from 819,986.5 metric tons in August 2022.

The US exported wood pellets to nearly 20 different countries in August. The UK was the top destination at 558,943.5 metric tons, followed by Denmark at 157,802.7 metric tons and Japan at 133,415.7 metric tons.

The value of US wood pellet exports reached $183.07 million in August, up from $112.86 million in July and $144.34 million in August 2022.

Total US wood pellet exports for the first eight months of 2023 reached 6.24 million metric tons at a value of $1.15 billion, compared to 5.83 million metric tons exported during the same period in 2022 at a value of $1.0 billion.
