US Wood Pellet Exports Decline in September

According to data released by US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service and analysis by Biomass Magazine (11-7-23), the US exported 796,988 million metric tons of wood pellets in September, down 21% from 1.01 million metric tons exported in August. It is also down 1% when compared to 804,975.5 metric tons exported in September 2022.

The US exported wood pellets to more than a dozen different countries in September. The UK was the top destination for US wood pellet exports in September at 495,640.0 metric tons, followed by Japan at 146,157.3 metric tons and the Netherlands at 47,333.5 metric tons.

The value of US wood pellet exports was $147.53 million in September, down from $183.07 million in August but up from $143.2 million in September 2022.

Total US wood pellet exports for the first nine months of 2023 reached 7.04 million metric tons at a value of $1.3 billion, compared to 6.63 million metric tons at a value of $1.15 billion during the same period a year earlier.
