Metsä Group Planning Significant Cost Savings Program

On Thursday, Metsä Group announced that it is initiating the planning of a major cost savings and profit improvement program in response to prolonged weak profitability and ongoing market uncertainty.

The program aims to generate approximately €300 million (US$347.12 million) in annual savings, with implementation set to begin gradually in 2026.

Planning is expected to conclude by the end of the current quarter. The initiative will target procurement and logistics costs, optimize the wood supply chain from forest to production, and reduce fixed costs. Metsä said the plan does not involve any permanent or temporary shutdowns of production units.

In addition to the cost savings program, each business area within Metsä Group will seek to improve performance by updating and refining its commercial strategy.
