Mercer Realigns Torgau, Germany, Operations and Cuts Workforce

Mercer Torgau GmbH & Co. KG, an indirectly wholly owned subsidiary of Mercer International Inc., announced measures to realign capacity and operations at its Torgau, Germany, facility amid economic uncertainty and higher raw material and energy costs.

The plan includes organizational streamlining, process improvements, adjustments to the product portfolio, and a significant workforce restructuring.

Mercer Torgau expects to eliminate about 100 contractor positions in July and reduce its overall workforce by roughly 350 roles in stages through 2027Q2. The company said it is coordinating with employee representatives and seeks to complete the workforce reduction in a socially responsible manner.

Mercer Torgau said it remains committed to maintaining strong, sustainable relationships with its regional stakeholders and continuing to deliver high-quality products.
