Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Decline Year-Over-Year in August
According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), in August, Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) fell 26.0% in value year-over-year, declining from US$404.0 million in August 2022 to US$299.8 million in August 2023.
Pine sawnwood exports declined 29.0% in value, decreasing from US$74.6 million in August 2022 to US$53.2 million in August 2023. In volume, exports decreased by 9.5% during the same period, dropping from 254,200 m3 to 230,100 m3.
Tropical sawnwood exports declined 26.0% in volume, plunging from 35,700 m3 in August 2022 to 26,200 m3 in August 2023. In value terms, exports dropped 22.0%—from US$16.2 million to US$12.6 million—over the same period.
Demand for pine plywood exports rose 4.0% in value compared to August 2022, increasing from US$50.6 million in August 2022 to US$52.8 million in August 2023. In volume, exports increased 32.0% over the same period, climbing from 127,400 m3 to 168,500 m3.
Tropical plywood exports declined 54.0% in volume and 60.0% in value, sliding from 5,200 m3 and US$3.7 million in August 2022 to 2,400 m3 and US$1.5 million in August 2023.
The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$60.9 million in August 2022 to US$54.0 million in August 2023, an 11.0% decline.
