Sydney Set to Become Home to World’s Tallest Hybrid Timber Tower
World’s Tallest Hybrid Timber Tower Rises in Sydney
In Sydney, Australia, the Atlassian Central project is set to become the world’s tallest hybrid timber tower when it is completed in late 2026, Parametric Architecture reported (1-3-2026)
The 39-story mixed-use development will rise 183 meters (600 feet) in the Haymarket district. It is designed by New York-based SHoP Architects in collaboration with Australian firm BVN Architecture.
Structural engineering is led by TTW and Eckersley O’Callaghan. Because timber alone cannot meet lateral stiffness requirements at this height, the tower uses a reinforced concrete core for lateral stability and a load-bearing steel exoskeleton at the perimeter.
The structure incorporates glulam beams and columns with CLT floor slabs. The hybrid system allows for flexible interior layouts while reducing the use of conventional concrete construction.
