Mosaic Timber Advances Toward Becoming California’s First CLT Producer

Mosaic Timber LLC has received a shipment of CLT manufacturing equipment, marking a major step toward becoming California’s first CLT producer, Sierra Daily News reported (12-15-25).

The equipment—an XE press, planer, and supporting systems manufactured by Ledinek Engineering—arrived last month in Crescent Mills from Slovenia. Transporting more than 200 tons of machinery required 12 trucks, according to the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment, which is leading the project.

The arrival of the equipment represents a significant milestone for Mosaic Timber, a capstone project of the Sierra Institute, which aims to establish California’s first CLT manufacturing facility.

Mosaic plans to produce lightweight, fire-resistant, carbon-sequestering housing panels using small-diameter trees. The facility is located on the Indian Valley Wood Utilization Campus, a former Louisiana-Pacific mill site that has undergone years of Environmental Protection Agency brownfield remediation led by the Sierra Institute.

Mosaic Timber is designed as a community-based business producing CLT panels for California homes using California wood. Project organizers expect the operation to create more than 50 full-time jobs within its first five years while supporting forest restoration and wildfire risk reduction efforts.
