US Weekly Jobless Claims Unchanged in the Week Ending October 7th

The US Department of Labor reported on Thursday (10-12-23) that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 209,000 during the week ending Saturday, October 7th. This is unchanged from the previous week’s revised level of 209,000 (originally reported as 207,000). The 4-week moving average was 206,250—a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week’s upwardly revised average of 209,250, originally reported as 208,750.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending September 30th was 1,702,000. This is an increase of 30,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,672,000 (originally reported as 1,664,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,674,250—an increase of 4,750 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,669,500 (originally reported as 1,677,500).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.1% for the week ending September 30th, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
