US Producer Price Index for Final Demand Rises 2.7% Year-Over-Year in March

The seasonally adjusted Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand fell 0.4% in March, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported on Friday. This follows increases of 0.1% in February and 0.6% in January. On an unadjusted basis, the index rose 2.7% over the 12 months ending in March.

More than 70% of March’s decline was driven by a 0.9% drop in prices for final demand goods. Prices for final demand services also fell, slipping 0.2%.

The index for final demand excluding food, energy, and trade services edged up 0.1% in March, following three consecutive monthly gains of 0.4%. Over the past year, this index rose 3.4%.
