US Producer Price Index for Final Demand Increases in July

On Tuesday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand, seasonally adjusted, advanced 0.1% in July. Final demand prices rose 0.2% in June and were unchanged in May. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand advanced 2.2% for the 12 months ending in July.

The increase can be traced to prices for final demand goods, which moved up 0.6%. In contrast, the index for final demand services declined 0.2%.

The index for final demand less food, energy, and trade services increased 0.3% in July after increasing 0.1% in June and 0.2% in May. Year-over-year, the index for final demand less food, energy, and trade services rose 3.3%.
