NAR Pending Home Sales Report Shows 5.4% Decrease in June
On Thursday, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported that its Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI)—based on signed contracts for existing single-family homes, condominiums, and co-ops—fell 5.4% month-over-month in June. Year-over-year, pending sales were down 0.3%.
An index of 100 corresponds to the level of contract activity in 2001.
The regional breakdown is as follows:
- The Northeast PHSI fell 3.0% month-over-month but rose 2.2% year-over-year.
- The Midwest index rose 8.9% month-over-month but fell 0.3% year-over-year.
- The South PHSI fell 4.1% month-over-month and 0.9% year-over-year.
- The West index fell 4.7% month-over-month and 1.1% year-over-year.
