On Thursday, Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week ending Thursday, February 12.
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.09%, down from 6.11% the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate averaged 6.87%.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.44%, down from 5.50% last week. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 6.09%.
Commenting on this week’s survey, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said:
“Bolstered by strong economic growth, a solid labor market, and mortgage rates at three-year lows, housing affordability continues to measurably improve. These factors have caught the attention of many prospective homebuyers, driving purchase application activity higher than a year ago.”
