US Weekly Jobless Claims for the Week Ending December 24th

The US Department of Labor is reporting that seasonally adjusted an additional 225,000 Americans made their initial filing for unemployment benefits during the week ending on Saturday, December 24, 2022. This is an increase of 9,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 216,000. The 4-week moving average was 221,000—a decrease of 250 from the previously week’s lower revised level of 221,250 originally reported as 221,750.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending December 17, 2022, was 1,710,000. This is an increase of 41,000 from the previous week’s lower revised level of 1,669,000, originally reported as 1,672,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,679,500—an increase of 25,250 from the previous week’s lower revised level of 1,654,250 originally reported as 1,657,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending December 17, 2022, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
