Canadian Payroll and Job Vacancy Report for February

On Thursday, Statistics Canada (StatCan) reported the results of its February Survey of Employment, Payrolls, and Hours. The number of Canadian employees receiving pay and benefits from their employer fell by 17,700, or 0.1%, in February, following an increase of 35,700, or 0.2%, in January.

Year-over-year, payroll employment was up 154,700, or 0.9%.

Job vacancies increased to 656,700 positions—up by 21,800, or 3.4%, from January but little changed from December 2023.
