Canadian Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices for September
Industrial product and raw materials price indexes, September 2025
On Monday, Statistics Canada (StatCan) released the Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices for September.
Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI)
The IPPI rose 0.8% in September and was up 5.5% year-over-year, marking the fourth straight monthly gain and the 12th consecutive annual increase.
The monthly increase was mainly driven by higher prices for primary non-ferrous metal products, energy and petroleum products, and meat, fish, and dairy products. These gains were partially offset by lower prices for lumber and other wood products (down 4.4%) as softwood lumber fell 10.7%, the largest decrease since June 2022.
Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI)
The RMPI rose 1.7% in September. Excluding crude energy products, the index increased 3.1%.
Year-over-year, the RMPI was up 8.4%. Excluding crude energy products, the index rose 18.4%.
