An In-depth View of the July Construction Industry Sector Job Data

The National Association of Home Builders has conducted a deeper dive into the Bureau of Labor Statistics nationwide total nonfarm payroll employment for the month of July. Total nonfarm payroll increased by 1.8 million during the month of July. In regard to the construction industry specifically, which includes both non-residential (commercial) and residential construction, across the 48 states which reported construction sector jobs data, 23 states reported an increase in July compared to June, while 25 states lost construction sector jobs. Overall, the construction industry added 20,000 jobs in July compared to the previous month. Year-over-year, the U.S lost 309,000 construction sector jobs which is a -0.1% decrease compared to July 2019.
