Roseburg Restarts Construction on Dillard, OR, MDF Plant
On Wednesday, Roseburg Forest Products announced it is restarting construction activities at Dillard MDF, a new medium density fiberboard (MDF) plant that the company says is central to its long-term growth strategy and goal of becoming the leading MDF producer in the US West.
Roseburg paused the project in early 2025 due to economic uncertainty, volatile market conditions, and potential Oregon state policy changes that the company said could undermine the project’s viability.
As part of Roseburg’s multi-year modernization and investment in southern Oregon, the Dillard MDF facility will feature a next-generation Siempelkamp continuous press. The technology converts wood residuals into high-density fiberboard (HDF), traditional MDF panels, and value-added products for construction, cabinetry, and flooring markets.
The new mill will be fully integrated into Roseburg’s Dillard complex to leverage existing wood fiber supply and biomass energy production.
The fiberboard press will be installed on the same footprint as the first press supplied by Siempelkamp to Roseburg more than 50 years ago. The new system will be capable of producing MDF and HDF panels with thicknesses ranging from 2–28 mm.
Roseburg said the new plant is expected to employ more than 140 people when operations begin in late 2028. In addition to its Medford, Oregon, facility, the company currently produces MDF products in El Dorado, Arkansas, and Pembroke, Ontario.
