Large Fire Contained at Georgia-Pacific’s Englehart, ON, OSB Mill
Firefighters contain large industrial fire at Englehart Mill
A major fire at Georgia-Pacific’s OSB mill in Englehart, Ontario, required a multi-department response early Sunday morning, with crews working more than ten hours to contain the blaze and protect surrounding assets, CTV News reported (9-9-25).
The fire involved a large pile of waste OSB, about 18 by 91 meters (60 by 300 feet), stored in the mill yard. The material, described by the mill as “hog fuel,” is typically chipped for use as biofuel.
The fire’s intensity forced a shift from an offensive to a defensive strategy, with firefighters focusing on protecting nearby exposures, including large log piles.
The blaze continued at a lower intensity throughout the day. The Englehart Fire Department stood down at about 3:30 PM, after the Ministry of Natural Resources installed a sprinkler system. Mill staff were left to monitor the smoldering pile.
“Fortunately, we do not anticipate any impact on operations since the fire was contained outside,” said Rick Kimble, Director, Public Affairs and Communications for Georgia Pacific, in a statement to CTV News.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
