Woodgrain to Permanently Close Its Pilot Rock, OR, Sawmill

Woodgrain Inc. notified Oregon officials on July 1 that it will permanently close its Pilot Rock sawmill on or after September 1, Woodworking Network reported (7-2-25). The closure will affect 62 employees. The company plans to consolidate operations with its La Grande sawmill.

In a statement to Oregon Live, Woodgrain cited ongoing industry challenges, including rising costs and market pressures, which have made it difficult for smaller mills like Pilot Rock to remain competitive.

Woodgrain acquired the Pilot Rock and La Grande mills from Boise Cascade in 2018. The particleboard plant in Island City included in that deal was sold to Kronospan in 2024.
