Cariboo Pulp & Paper Planned Curtailment This Spring and Fall
West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. announced on Tuesday (2-7-23) that it is planning to curtail operations at the Cariboo Pulp & Paper facility, which it jointly owns with Mercer International in Quesnel, British Columbia, beginning in mid-April for a month and then again for another month sometime in Q3.
In a press release, West Fraser said that the downtime will help better align production capacity with available fiber supply, which has been reduced due to the lack of available sawmill residuals. The company also noted that the plans may be adjusted should the fiber forecast change.
West Fraser hopes to mitigate some of the impact on its affected Cariboo Pulp & Paper employees through vacation scheduling and alternative work assignments.
