USDA Guarantees $80 Million to Expand Lumber Production in Nevada and Oregon
On Thursday, US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Acting Under Secretary Todd Lindsey announced that the agency is guaranteeing $80 million through the Timber Production Expansion Guaranteed Loan Program and Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program.
The financing is intended to support businesses in Oregon and Nevada, expand domestic timber production, strengthen wood-processing capacity, improve forest health, and reduce wildfire risk.
USDA is guaranteeing $50 million in loans to Tahoe Forest Products LLC in Nevada. The funding will support expanded processing capabilities, including kilns, a planer mill, and a new saw line using timber from Nevada and California.
The expansion will allow Tahoe Forest Products to shift from rough material production to finished lumber for retail distributors and large-scale construction markets. The company is expected to increase premium lumber production capacity by 60,000 MBF.
USDA is also guaranteeing $30 million in loans to Clatskanie Scion LLC in Oregon. The funding will support an expansion of Myers Woodline’s industrial lumber operations, including construction and permanent financing for a new sawmill and related equipment. The project is expected to create at least 35 jobs.
