Sawmill finds new life, ramping up production in Wilkes County
A former International Paper sawmill in Washington, Georgia, has reopened as Wilkes Lumber Company, WRDW reported (5-12-26).
The chip and sawmill operation, located on an 80-acre site on Harris Road, began operations on April 1 and is ramping up production of various untreated lumber products.
Owner Wilkes Barnett and Director of Operations Mack Winfrey told WRDW they aimed to bring jobs and industry back to the area while providing local logging companies with a nearby facility to deliver logs.
