Update on Explosion and Fire at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, ME
A massive explosion and fire at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, Maine, has forced the temporary shutdown of the sixth-generation family-owned sawmill as investigators work to determine the cause of the blast, News Center Maine reported (5-15-26).
According to the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office, one firefighter who initially responded to the mill was found dead at the scene. At least ten other people were injured, including one patient reported to be in critical condition.
The 40-acre property includes a biomass co-generation plant, a computerized sawmill, kilns with 675,000 board feet of capacity, planing mills, a cut-up shop, 70,000 square feet of warehouse space, and the company’s general offices.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and explosion. Updates on injured workers and the status of the facility are expected in the coming days.
