Montrose Forest Products Sawmill in Montrose, CO, Issues WARN Notices as Owner Pursues Buyer

Neiman Enterprises, owner of Montrose Forest Products in Montrose, Colorado, is seeking a buyer for the sawmill, with the parties aiming to secure a deal before November 6 to preserve the workforce and avoid an interruption in operations, the Montrose Business Times reported (9-9-26).

Neiman Enterprises issued federally required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notices to around 90 employees this week, warning of a potential closure. The notices list November 6 as the end of the 60-day notice period.

Sonja Neiman, community relations manager for Neiman Enterprises, said the possibility of closure is real, but the outcome has not been determined as the company continues efforts to sell the mill as an operating facility.

“The possibility is real, which is why we were required to issue the WARN notices,” Neiman said. “At the same time, a final outcome has not been determined. We are continuing to pursue every viable opportunity to find a buyer and preserve the mill as an operating business.”

Montrose Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Sandy Head said the organization is working with Neiman Enterprises on several potential scenarios. “It’s not a done deal. We’re still working,” Head said. “There are several scenarios, and we’re working on one in particular. We’re hoping to save it.”

Neiman Enterprises said confidentiality agreements prevent it from identifying prospective buyers or discussing financing structures and negotiations.
