US Weekly Jobless Claims Increase for the Week Ending April 29th

The US Department of Labor is reporting that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 242,000 during the week ending on Saturday, April 29th. This is an increase of 13,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 229,000 (originally reported as 230,000). The 4-week moving average was 239,250—an increase of 3,500 from the previous week’s revised level of 235,750 (originally reported as 236,000).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending April 22nd was 1,805,000. This is a decrease of 38,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,843,000 (originally reported as 1,858,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,828,250—a decrease of 4,500 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,832,750 (originally reported as 1,836,500).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending April 22nd, a decrease of 0.1% from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
