On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 208,000 for the week ending Saturday, July 11, a decrease of 8,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 216,000 (originally 215,000). The four-week moving average was 214,250—a decrease of 4,750 from the prior week’s revised average of 219,000 (originally 218,750).
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending July 4 was 1,805,000, a decrease of 16,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,821,000 (originally 1,814,000). The four-week moving average was 1,811,000—an increase of 1,250 from the prior week’s revised average of 1,809,750 (originally 1,808,000).
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending July 4, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
