US Remodeling Market Sentiment Holds Steady in Q3 Despite Ongoing Headwinds

On Thursday, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) released its Remodeling Market Index (RMI) for Q3, reporting a reading of 62, up one point from Q2.

NAHB noted that the RMI has remained within a narrow range of 59–70 over the past four years. Remodeler sentiment continues to stand out within the housing industry compared with the single-family and multifamily construction sectors.

Despite relatively stable sentiment, remodelers reported that economic uncertainty is causing some potential customers to delay projects. Labor shortages, exacerbated by immigration enforcement and competition from data center construction, are also extending project completion times.

Nevertheless, remodeling continues to gain share in the overall construction market, as it is somewhat less sensitive to elevated interest rates than new construction.
