On Tuesday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the seasonally adjusted Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand rose 0.2% in December. This follows increases of 0.4% in November and 0.2% in October.
On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index climbed 3.3% in 2024, compared to a 1.1% rise in 2023.
December’s increase in final demand prices was driven by a 0.6% rise in the index for final demand goods, while prices for final demand services remained unchanged.
The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services edged up by 0.1% in December, matching November’s increase. For 2024, this index rose 3.3%, compared to a 2.7% increase in 2023.
