Personal Income and Outlays, July 2026
On Wednesday, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported that personal income (PI) rose $115.1 billion, or 0.4%, at a monthly rate in July. Disposable personal income (DPI)—personal income less personal current taxes—rose $125.9 billion, or 0.5%. Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $36.3 billion, or 0.2%.
Month-over-month, the PCE price index rose 0.2%. Excluding food and energy, the index also increased 0.2%.
Year-over-year, the PCE price index rose 3.7% in July. Excluding food and energy, the measure was up 3.3% from a year earlier.
Personal outlays—the sum of PCE, personal interest payments, and personal current transfer payments—increased $36.6 billion in July. Personal saving was $712.0 billion, and the personal saving rate—personal saving as a percentage of DPI—was 3.0%.
The increase in current-dollar personal income primarily reflected increases in compensation, government social benefits, and personal income receipts on assets, BEA said.
