US Construction Job Openings Increase in July

A closer look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) for July, with analysis from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), shows that the number of open construction sector jobs increased to 326,000 from 298,000 in June. Openings were also above the 305,000 reported a year earlier.

The construction job openings rate rose to 3.8% in July, up from 3.6% a year earlier. NAHB noted that the current number of open jobs remains below levels from three years ago amid weaker construction activity, particularly in housing.

Construction hiring strengthened in July, with the hires rate rising from 3.8% to 4.4%. The layoff rate held at 1.9%, while the quits rate increased to 2.3%.
