On Wednesday, the US Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development jointly announced that new residential single-family home sales for January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 657,000, according to estimates. This is 10.5% below the revised December 2024 rate of 734,000 and 1.1% below the January 2024 estimate of 664,000.
The median sales price of new houses sold in January was $446,300. The average sales price was $510,000.
The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of January was 495,000. This represents a supply of 9.0 months at the current sales rate.
