Canadian Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices for February

On Friday, Statistics Canada (StatCan) released the Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices for February.

Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI)

The IPPI rose 0.4% in February, driven mainly by higher prices for energy and petroleum products.

Year-over-year, the IPPI was up 5.4%—the 17th consecutive annual increase.

Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI)

The RMPI rose 0.6% in February and was up 8.6% year-over-year.

Prices for crude energy products increased 4.8% in February, leading the monthly gain. Excluding crude energy products, the index fell 1.1%.

Year-over-year, the RMPI was up 8.6%. Excluding crude energy products, the index rose 20.9%.
