Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Fall Month-Over-Month and Year-Over-Year in September

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) in September declined 11% in value compared to September 2021, falling from US$382.0 million in September 2021 to US$341.6 million in September 2022.

Pine sawnwood exports declined 15.0% in value, decreasing from US$82.20 million in September 2021 to US$69.7 million in September 2022. In volume, exports declined by over 17% during the same period from 293,100 cu.m to 242,300 cu.m.

Tropical sawnwood exports declined 14% in volume, falling from 35,900 cu.m in September 2021 to 30,800 cu.m in September 2022. In value, exports grew 21% from US$12.2 million to US$14.8 million over the same time period.

Demand for pine plywood exports dropped 48% when compared to September 2021, from US$79.4 million in September 2021 to US$41.7 million in September 2022. In volume, exports also decreased, but only by 28% over the same time period, from 159,100 cu.m to 114,100 cu.m.

Tropical plywood exports tumbled 63% lower in volume and 56% in value, from 9,000 cu.m or US$5.2 million in September 2021, to 2,300 cu.m or US$3.3 million in September 2022.

The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$71.8 million in September 2021 to US$53.8 million in September 2022. This represents a 25% decline year-over-year.
