Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Decline in March

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Brazilian exports of wood-based product (except for pulp and paper) declined year-over-year 4.4% in value in March. March 2019 reported level was US$276.0 million, while 2020 reported level was US$264.0 million. The value of March pine sawn wood exports dropped 22% year-over-year, while the volume of exports decreased 18% for the same period. Year-over-year, pine plywood exports fell 23% in value. At the same time export volume dropped 11% when compared to March 2019. In contrast to the general decline in exports, wooden furniture exports in March 2020 rose from US$44.6 million in March 2019 to US$46.2 million in March 2020. However, the value of furniture exports in the first quarter of 2020 illustrated the impact of the virus pandemic.
