U.S. – Mexico Border Scheduled to Close to Slow Spread of COVID-19 Virus

President Trump announced on Friday afternoon, that the U.S. – Mexico border will be closed to nonessential travel to further help stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.  In his prepared remarks President Trump said “As we did with Canada, we’re also working with Mexico to implement new rules at our ports of entry to suspend non-essential travel. These new rules and procedures will not impede lawful trade and commerce.” Trump also said that Mexico is also suspending air travel from Europe. Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, followed up the President’s remarks saying “We want to make sure that cargo continues, trade continues, heath care workers continue to be able to traverse that border. But tourism, some recreational activities and other things needs to stop during this crisis.”
