Census Bureau Reports on 4th Qtr. 2019 Homeownership and Residential Vacancies

The U.S. Census Bureau has announced fourth quarter 2019 statistics for residential vacancies and homeownership. The national vacancy rates in the fourth quarter were 6.4% for rental housing and 1.4% for homeowner housing. The rental vacancy rate was 6.4%, which is almost the same as the fourth quarter of 2018, but <-0.4%> below the third quarter of 2019. Approximately 88.5% of the housing units in the United States in the fourth quarter 2019 were occupied and 11.5% were vacant. Owner-occupied housing units made up 57.6% of total housing units, while renter-occupied units made up 30.9%of the inventory in the fourth quarter 2019.
