Extra Alarm Fire Damages Roseburg Forest Products Medford Oregon MDF Mill

A fire was discovered around 4:45 AM (PDT) on Tuesday August 11th, at Roseburg Forest Products, Medford Oregon, MDF plant.  According to Deputy Chief of Operations Bryan Baumgartner, of the Medford-Fire-Rescue, the first unit to arrive saw flames spreading from an area containing raw materials, promptly called for additional resources and the fire was quickly upgraded to a two alarm fire. About 25 plant personnel assisted firefighters with suppression efforts. Power had to be shut off, and firefighters had to access tough-to-reach areas such as catwalks and roofs, which made the plant personnel help invaluable. Firefighters had the blaze mostly knocked down by about 6:40 a.m. and fully controlled by 9:20 a.m., Baumgartner said. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remained under investigation. Roseburg has not provided any details on damage to the facility.
